Our Mission
Power Shuttlers New York is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building healthier, more inclusive communities through the power of sport. We provide adaptive and traditional badminton and table tennis programs that welcome individuals of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds — including youth, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and underserved populations.
Through access to coaching, facilities, equipment, and education, we create safe and empowering spaces where everyone can grow in confidence, connection, and well-being.

We envision a community where sport is accessible to all — regardless of ability, age, or income. A community where badminton and table tennis become pathways to health, belonging, rehabilitation, and competitive excellence. Power Shuttlers strives to remove barriers, foster inclusion, and inspire lifelong participation in sport for every individual we serve.

Our Programs
Badminton & Table Tennis for All
From beginners to competitive athletes, from children to seniors — every program is inclusive, structured, and community-centered.
Kids (Ages 6–12)
Foundational skills, fun drills, and progression tracking. After-school sessions build coordination, focus, and confidence in a safe, welcoming environment.
Youth (Ages 13–17)
Development and competitive tracks. Youth athletes progress from recreational play to tournament-level training through our structured pathway.
Adults (Ages 18–59)
Beginner through advanced classes, open play, and league nights. Flexible scheduling with drop-in options for busy New Yorkers.
Seniors (Ages 60+)
Low-impact, social, and wellness-focused sessions. Discounted and free options available. Active aging through sport with safety and community at the core.
Para Athletes (All Ages)
Wheelchair-accessible layouts, seated play, multi-ball drills, and 1:2–4 adaptive coaching. Grant-supported — free to $50/month based on household income.
Family & Community
Friday Family Nights and community league play open to all ages. A space where families grow together through sport, connection, and healthy competition.

Make Sport More Accessible
Power Shuttlers New York runs on the passion of our community. Volunteers are the heart of everything we do — from coaching kids to setting up courts, managing events to supporting adaptive athletes.
Whether you have 2 hours a week or want a recurring role, there's a place for you here. No experience necessary for most roles — just a commitment to inclusion and community.
All volunteers receive an orientation, training support, and a community that has your back. Volunteer hours can count toward college service requirements.
Volunteer Roles
Assistant Coach
Support lead coaches in drills, match play, and skill development. Badminton or table tennis experience preferred but not required.
Adaptive Sports Helper
Assist para athletes during inclusive sessions. Patience, empathy, and willingness to learn adaptive techniques are key.
Program Coordinator
Help schedule sessions, manage registrations, and communicate with participants. Great for organized, detail-oriented volunteers.
Community Outreach
Spread the word in underserved neighborhoods, partner with schools and community centers, and help recruit new participants.
Event & Tournament Helper
Assist with setup, logistics, scorekeeping, and hospitality at community tournaments, family nights, and fundraising events.
Admin & Social Media
Support grant writing, content creation, photography, or website updates. Remote-friendly. Great for students seeking nonprofit experience.

Our People
Leadership & Staff
The dedicated team behind Power Shuttlers New York — bringing occupational therapy, finance, coaching, engineering, and community organizing under one mission.
Board of Directors
Moira is the President and Founder of Power Shuttlers and a licensed occupational therapist in the State of New York with 16 years of clinical experience serving diverse populations across major areas of the city. She began her professional career in the Philippines for five years, working in hospital, community-based rehabilitation, and ergonomic practice — including work as an ergonomist for Colgate-Palmolive Philippines, where she applied human performance and workplace safety principles.
She has extensive experience working with individuals with disabilities through clinical rehabilitation services that support functional independence, community participation, and improved quality of life. She obtained a temporary badminton coaching authorization through the New York State Education Department, enabling her to integrate occupational therapy principles with sports coaching and adaptive athletic training.
An active badminton player and community organizer, she leads the development of inclusive and adaptive badminton programs, including training, recreational play, and tournaments that promote participation of athletes of all abilities.
As President and Founder, she provides strategic vision, program innovation, and mission leadership for Power Shuttlers, advancing community-based adaptive sports and rehabilitation-informed athletic development.
Karl is a senior accounting and audit professional with expertise in financial reporting, compliance, and analysis. With a background spanning audit, procurement, and recruitment, he brings strong governance, organization, and accountability to Power Shuttlers.
As Secretary, he oversees corporate records and board documentation to ensure transparency and regulatory compliance. He is also an active badminton player who supports and participates in training and tournaments in both the Philippines and the United States.
Rochelle serves as Treasurer of Power Shuttlers, bringing a strong foundation in business operations, financial oversight, and process improvement. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering in the Philippines (2004) and has nearly seven years of experience with Northwell Health as a Business Operations Specialist.
Rochelle is also actively involved in the community through participation in badminton and table tennis tournaments, reflecting her commitment to promoting recreational and competitive sports engagement. As Treasurer, she oversees financial management, budgeting, reporting, and internal controls to ensure transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability in support of Power Shuttlers' mission.
Program Staff
Coach Cara is a community-focused nonprofit sports leader dedicated to advancing inclusive badminton programming that promotes health, education, and social participation across all ages and abilities. Through structured training initiatives, she has empowered more than 1,000 children, adults, and seniors by providing accessible athletic opportunities that build confidence, discipline, and lifelong fitness habits.
With nearly a decade of service in the Philippine Army, she brings a strong foundation of leadership, operational discipline, and mission-driven execution to nonprofit sports development. Her military background, combined with her competitive shooting expertise and rifle expert certification, reinforces her focus on precision, responsibility, and structured coaching systems.
Coach Cara leads community badminton engagement through the organization of three annual tournaments and regular game nights that strengthen social connection, sportsmanship, and inclusive participation. Her leadership philosophy centers on creating safe, disciplined, and welcoming sports environments, particularly in school and community settings.
Leads school-based badminton training and competitive development programs; mentors student-athletes in skill progression, sportsmanship, and discipline.
Delivers structured training for youth and adult athletes; designs performance-based sessions focused on agility, endurance, and match strategy.
Managed daily facility operations, court scheduling, competitive coaching, tournaments, leagues, and member engagement.
Nick Hernandez brings a dynamic blend of technical expertise, leadership, and community-driven purpose to Power Shuttlers. He is a graduate of Agricultural Engineering and a licensed engineer, bringing a strong analytical mindset, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail into every role he undertakes.
His professional background spans customer engagement, team leadership, and operational support, where he has consistently demonstrated the ability to improve processes, guide teams, and deliver results in fast-paced environments.
At Power Shuttlers, Nick contributes to advancing the organization's mission of promoting health, inclusion, and community wellness through sports. His passion for accessibility and community engagement aligns closely with the organization's vision, helping create an inclusive and supportive environment for individuals of all abilities. Through his combined technical knowledge and people-focused experience, Nick is committed to making a meaningful and lasting impact within the community.
